2012 Grammy Recap… Funeral? Celebration? Dance Party? Hot Men?

grammys-2012_jpg_640x432_q85

It is RARE that I watch award shows from beginning to end. I find them to be shallow experiences where all the people I do not like get awards, and the people I do like get the shaft. They are like huge popularity contests that do not truly award efforts, but rather use this flawed voting system. I used to watch the VMA's each year, but even that show is long and arduous now. A large part of why I do not like award shows now is because in Europe, I can't watch them Sunday night...Instead I have to watch them the next day on Monday which is a bear because I am working. However, for this Grammy awards, I made the exception, gave up 2.5 hours of my precious time and watched it this morning (my precious Monday mornings) and watch it. I cried. I laughed. I reflected. I wondered in disbelief. I judged. Yeah, I did all that and more! So, since I watched it alone (again, gave up my precious Monday morning), I thought I would share my thoughts with all of you...my readers... First things … [Read more...]

Whitney…The World’s Loss

whitney-houston-expected-to-top-billboard-charts

Like most of the world right now, I am simply reeling over the death of Whitney Houston. Last night, she was found at the Beverly Hills hotel, and the cause of death is still yet unknown. We can only speculate, but I am sure the truth will come out in a few weeks. When it does, I am sure few will be surprised. She has been on a slippery slope for years as a result of consistent drug use. I cried this morning when I found out the news. Diane texted me first thing, and I read about it. I guess the news hit the states last night while I was sleeping. I hate waking up to bad news. It really puts a huge damper on your day. I am happy to know that they are doing a tribute to her tonight on the Grammys. I know I will definitely be watching. I do not know where to begin and end with my story of Whitney. Like many others my age, she shaped many of our memories through her hits. Her voice was legendary. Her beauty was breathtaking. I know that this is not right, but I KNOW it is okay. I … [Read more...]

The Birth of Blue Ivy Carter: The Self-Loathing of Black People Continues…

Blue Ivy Carter

Yesterday, Jay-Z and Beyonce released photos of Blue Ivy Carter via Tumblr and Jay's personal website. She is a GORGEOUS Child. Amazing and perfect in everyway. She actually looks a LOT like Camille when she was born. One look at her, and you can tell she has a complete mix of both of her parents. Like her parents, she will be destined to be an amazing superstar in whatever she chooses to do. She's only a newborn, and already rich. She's only a newborn, and has a pedigreed name. She's only a newborn and she's GASP, light...with straight hair...a cute button nose and perfect even skin. Like many, I love to read the comments on the celeb news sites I frequent, EW being my favorite, and instead of hearing nothing but congratulations, you hear comments ranging from: "At least she didn't get JayZ's nose" "she does not have her father nose she has a perfect nose and she's just a baby damn." "Her hair is straight just like her moms" "Don't worry, she's light now, but she … [Read more...]

My top 10 songs of 2011

bounce

Okay, the crazyness of the new year has FINALLY settled down. Now, it's time to to finally document and reflect upon 2011. Most years, I have music that really impacts me, and I try to document. This year was no exception. I had SEVERAL ultimate jams. Carve out 20 minutes or so out of your day to sit and read/listen/view and get a feel for what my 2011 was truly all about. My songs are rated based upon the following: 1) How many times I listen to them. 2) How many memories they are linked to. 3) The videos 4) How happy they made  me I have known all year what my #1 was, and is, but the others had to duke it out.   Now, some of these songs may have come out earlier than 2011, but they didn't hit my world fully until 2011, so here we go... #10 - Wiz Khalifa - Black and Yellow Hahahaha, this one is housed solidly on Diane's iPod and I remember everytime we were in her car, it came on. The entire summer of 2011, I had no idea what the song was about, or any words … [Read more...]

2012…What do you have in store?

2012

What is it about hearing the year 2012 that makes me feel crazy old? It just seems SO far away from 1995...when I graduated high school, or 99 when I graduated college, or 2000 when I was married. It seems FOREVER from when I got pregnant with J in 2006. Heck, it even seems far away from when I had C in 2008. It seems that a lot of life's events have happened for me. Now, we just look forward to the kids graduating, going to college, starting a family of their own...So, it looks like I'll be experiencing the same things, but in a different way. Yep. I'm old. I feel blessed, but I also feel anxious. I'm not doing nearly as much traveling as I should be. I would like to think Harley is the main reason we don't get out an do more, but Europe is really dog friendly, so not sure if that's the main issue. Is it money? Not really, because I blow tons of cash on other things. Is it work? Perhaps. I'm always tethered to a laptop. Is it laziness. Yep, probably. I've just been a bit lazy lately. … [Read more...]
